Welcome to the Colorado Section of ASNT

Bulk waves, P waves, S Waves, SH Waves, SV Waves, Longitudinal, Transverse, Rayleigh, Surface Waves -- are they all the same? Different? And what about other waves? Why are there different ones? Why do we have them at all? How do Ultrasonics help us find discontinuities (or "defects," for you critics)?

In this presentation we'll try to answer these questions in simple terms. Not too many equations. You'll have a chance to learn how ultrasonic (UT) waves are generated, how they behave, how they are reflected and multiply-reflected. Additional topics include: movement from one media to another, mode conversion, and change in propagation speed. We'll even mention "inverse problems"...

About the Speaker:

Dr. Kishoni has been involved in Engineering and the NDE field for over thirty years. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and his MBA from The University of Denver and holds ASNT Level III Certifications in five methods. Dr. Kishoni is the Chair of the Ultrasonic Method Committee of ASNT. He has worked as a Senior Research Scientist with NASA Langley Research Center, as a Research Professor with universities, and a business owner and consultant in the industry. Dr. Kishoni is involved in developing advanced NDE methods, signal processing, reliability and QA improvements. He is also a specialist in Strategic and tactical planning, providing business solutions for technology-based companies and technical solutions for businesses.

                 the road will curve to the left (~west).
