Ultrasonic Testing Back to Basics Brian K. Wood ABSTRACT Ultrasonic testing is a highly versatile method of nondestructive testing widely used in many facets of industry. The effectiveness of an ultrasonic examination is highly dependent upon the skills, practices and integrity of the technician along with the procedures implemented by the controlling authority. This presentation will revisit the basic fundamentals of ultrasonic testing, explore the many variables involved and reiterate their significance in relation to successfully producing accurate and reliable test results. About the Speaker Brian Wood has worked in the NDT industry for over twenty years. His career in NDT has focused mainly on ultrasonic testing, predominantly as applied to the inspection of oil country tubular goods and railway products. He earned his ASNT Level III certificate for UT in 1992, and has since gained ASNT Level III certificates in MT, ET and VT. He has worked as an NDT technician, manager, instructor, trainer and auditor and is currently the General Supervisor of Quality at the Seamless Tube Mill, Rocky Mountain Steel Mills.
The Board of Directors for the Colorado Section of ASNT has revised the section By-Laws. We have enclosed a copy of the revised By-Laws for members to review. We will vote to implement the new By-Laws at this meeting. You may also review and comment on the revised By-Laws. |
